Toughts on caine

Toughts on caine

I like Caine I use him a lot.
The reason being that I really like the look of the model and the fluff behind him
Also the fact that he fits into my flashy gun and run(or run and gun) play style helps two.


Closer look at Caine stats

From a quick look of Caine’s stats you can learn that he doesn’t love being in combat much his mat is kind of pathetic for a warcaster. He does love to shoot tough having 2 ranged weapons (aka firing 2 shoot a turn without using focus) and a rat only surpassed by Eiryss. Also his Foc is 6 nice and average.

His defense is also very high but he’s not great on amour.

So there are 2 things Caine does very well.

1 Shoot up light targets (like infantry)
2 Shoot the opponents warcaster.

There are also two things Caine should fear

1 knockdown. Since the negates his high defense
2 Aoe blast whit a high pow since they don’t need to hit him to do damage just not scatter to far(never put caine next to something whit a low defense when playing agains armies whit a lot of aoe)


Abilities.

Crack shot: Probably the most ability that received the most errata’s in the game
Going form insane in the original prime (for the way you could interpreted the rules) to still very good now. Basically it means that if you see only a tiny fraction of your targets base you can still hit him without having to worry about the defense going trough the roof. This makes Caine a good assassin.

Range amplifier:Very useful Caine does not really need an arcnode to use his spells to full effect. Most spell can be targeted on any target in his LOS and control area whit is usually enough.

Spells

Arcane blast:
Not the best of spells useful to hit some infantry or stealth units but not very good in my opinion

Blur: Nice if you are getting shot by things. But not really that useful since cygnar does most of the shooting any way so you can possibly counter that shooting by more shooting of your own.

Deadeye. This is the sorcha hitter(or other high defense stuff). Is she up to her defense 22 again? Cast this on Caine and boost the to-hit roll. Average rolls now yield 22 or 24 If you where standing still so a decent change of hitting her. Boosting the damage should leave her whit 8 damage and you whit 2 focus to use on……

Flash. This is Caines most useful spell it does a few good things for Caine. It makes him capable of using gun and run tactics. Aka move forward shoot the crap out of something and than flash back to safety. It also gets him in to positions where he can try and assassinate the enemy caster next turn. And should it ever come down to a caster duel. This will help Caine win whit ease.

Snipe: One of the best spells if you ask me. Long gunners whit snipe cast on them have a tread range that make the other factions green whit envy not only that but it can be used to turn the otherwise uninteresting ranged weapons of the storm units into something more useful. Storm blades whit a unit attachment and snipe on them can be scary guys.

Thunder strike: Need to knock something down and deal some heavy damage? This spell is the way to go. Nice if you can channel it trough a lancer and follow it up whit a defender shot. Or you could channel it trough the lancer to set up a target to get raped by said lancer and a unit of sword knights.
The best thing about this spell is that you can punish opponents for hiding there casters behind big things.

Feat. Against some armies Caine’s feat is great. Against others its mediocre at best.
Some times the best you can get out of it is a other shot at someone’s warcaster without having to boast. At other times you wipe out a guys entire army in one turn.

How to use Caine

Caine is a mix between a sniper riffle and a machine gun turret.
Use him like that
Caine does not go well whit jacks since he can do nothing to boost there effectiveness.
The most I usually go for is one lancer to channel spells or one defender to take advantage of snipe.
Caine does like shooting units trough. Long gunners or trenchers are going to be more effective under Caine’s wing than under most other Cygnar warcasters.
But when it comes down to business Caine is a assassin. The rest of the army should be there to either help you keep Caine safe until he can use his skills. Or to clear the way for Caine to his target. Don’t be shy to sacrifice your army just to get Caine in a one on one whit the enemy caster. Most Casters will not be able to get Caine down.

Basically use the trenchers in the first urn to assassinate something scary (aka advance deploy close to something. Cast snipe on them. Give them the Assault and Battery order. Shoot something. And charge back towards your own lines).
Then use smoke to protect you army for a wile you use the thread ranges form you army to horde the enemy caster in the killing zone and set Caine up for his assassinate attempt. Works cute well most of the time

The army does not like cryx very much how ever bane thralls are a bitch trough stealth and al those chickens can run behind the smoke screen and try to get to Caine or the other softer parts of the army
